“With the soul’s resignation, the flesh began to speak. Creation was attempted once more; this time godless, aimless and flawed.

About the work

From its own residue, humankind created a new species: silent, shapely and empty.” On this large 120 × 100 cm canvas, Ali Demirci carries the chaos of Hieronymus Bosch and the dark satire of Goya into a modern dystopia. Cow-headed figures, flesh-eating plants and mutated bodies stand for the heap of “flesh” left of a humanity whose soul has withdrawn. This grotesque carnival is not an aesthetic ghost train but a tragic portrait of the human break from nature and from its own essence. The contrast between the softness of the colours and the savagery of the scene both enchants and chills the viewer.
